Camp Roots Forest School
Forest Roots & Wild Roots

Teacher (Open)

We are seeking a passionate and experienced outdoor educator to co-teach our Camp Roots Forest School programs for both elementary

(6--12) and middle school (11--15) ages. This position begins April/May 2020 to overlap with our current forest school teachers. Camp Roots Forest School provides opportunities for youth to learn through direct experience hiking, playing, and exploring at beautiful Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore, Washington. Our teachers act as mentors, role models, and guides, sparking engagement, creating connections, and learning alongside the children each day. This position averages over 30 hours a week September through June and can be combined with a summer camp teaching position for a year-round job. There is an option for a 40 hour work week with additional Camp Roots Forest School duties.

Camp Roots Forest School Naturalist Outdoor School

Substitute Teachers (Open)

The lead teacher will let you know throughout the day how to best support the class. In addition, your role will include:

  • keeping an eye on the children and the surroundings (counting, watching boundaries, checking for hazards)

  • supporting exploration and discovery

  • helping with bathroom breaks

  • ensuring that the class stays together during hikes

  • assisting the teacher in lessons, projects, and games

  • helping to set up and take down the class space and materials

  • modeling a positive and inquisitive attitude

  • modeling a positive attitude about the weather rain or shine

Naturalist Outdoor School Director (Open)

We are seeking a kind and knowledgeable teacher to take on the director role for our new Naturalist Outdoor School Program. This position will be open to one of our teachers to add to their regular contract and will average 10--15 hours week year-round.

Naturalist Outdoor School Family Programs Teachers

(Open)

We are seeking a passionate and experienced nature lover to teach our Family Naturalist Classes. Our Naturalist Outdoor School provides opportunities for youth and their families to learn through direct experience hiking, playing, exploring, and stewarding beautiful parks in Kenmore, Washington. Our teachers act as mentors, role models, and guides, sparking engagement, creating connections, and learning alongside the children each day. 

Pay: $50/one hour class and $100/two hour class (includes prep time)

Family Naturalist Program

Days: 1-2 days/week (your choice)

Months Offered: Year-round

Hours: 9:45 am--12:15 pm (Class Hours: 10 am--12 noon) 

Class Size: 10 families

Little Naturalist Program

Days: 1-2 days/week (your choice)

Months offers: Year-round

Ages: 6 months--3.5 years

Hours: 9:45 am--11:15 am (Class Hours: 10am --11 am)

Class Size: 10 families

Naturalist Outdoor School

We are seeking two enthusiastic and caring nature lovers to co-teach Naturalist Outdoor School for children ages 3--11. Naturalist Outdoor School provides provides opportunities for youth to learn through direct experience playing, exploring, and stewarding beautiful parks in Kenmore, Washington. Our teachers act as mentors, role models, and guides, sparking engagement, creating connections, and learning alongside the children each day. 

Pay: $20--$25/hour

Days: Monday--Friday

Months Offered: Year-round

 

Curious Naturalist Program

Days: Tuesday--Thursday

Hours: 10 am--2 pm

Class Size: 10 

Ages: 3.5--5 years

 

Adventure Naturalist Program
Days: Monday and Friday - Various Parks

Hours: 9:45 am--2:15 pm/3:15 pm (Class Hours: 10 am--2 pm/3pm if both teachers are available for the later end time) 

Class Size: 12

Ages: 6--12 years
 

Location: Various parks in Kenmore

Summer 2020 
Camp PlayOUT
Staff (Open)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and caring summer camp staff to join us at Saint Edward State Park or Linwood Park (both in Kenmore, Washington). Our summer camps  provide opportunities for youth to learn through direct experience playing, exploring, and stewarding beautiful natural spaces. Our teachers act as mentors, role models, and guides, sparking engagement, creating connections, and learning alongside the children each day. 

Pay: $16--$20/hour

Weeks: July 6--August 14

Days: Monday--Friday 

Hours: 8:30 am--4:30 pm/1 OT position until 5:15
 

Positions Available 

1 full summer program teen (age16--18) position

1 full summer program college age or above (age 18+) teaching position

1 partial summer program (weeks 1--3) teen (age 16--18) position
